Show respect to all students and instructors at all times. (apply this to your daily life)

Never leave the mat area once class is in session without permission

Attend our yearly Kangeiko training (2 day winter Aiki & Karate training)

Always bow before getting on the mat training area and after getting off the mat

Always remove your shoes and carry them down to the changing room

Train daily with a makiwara at home

Read Ki In Daily Life three times before green belt promotion

Learn the basics well

Only black belt instructors and brown belt assistant instructors may "teach" the art

Besides physical prowess, promotions will be considered on the basis of maturity, reliability, sincerity, attendance, and on your character

Live the Art

Ask Sensei about required readings

Never walk on the mats with shoes. (apply this to your home)

Do not park in the rear of the dojo (room for instructors and tenants only)

Do not drink from another student’s water mug. Purchase your own water mug

Clean the dojo periodically. Do not wait to be told (apply this to your home)

Put your tuition (cash or check) in an envelope and put your name on it. It is rude to drop cash on Sensei’s desk

Just as a temple, synagogue, or church is more than a building and a home is more than a house, the Budokan or dojo is more than a store front or a gym.

You will arrive and depart from the dojo with a properly folded gi, obi, and hachimaki

Do not ask to use the dojo telephone unless it is a true emergency. Make your plans in advance.

When a student’s skills have been assessed and a recommendation has been made, a private lesson will be arranged for the purpose of testing, modifying, and re-teaching

Get involved in seminars, clinics, workshops, and weapons classes

Once class begins, be quiet. Sign up, line up, and shut up
