Basic One-step Sparring with Bo

Bo Kihon Ippon Kumite
Required for promotion to 3rd Kyu and up.

1. Attack; Upper level two hand thrust.
   Defense; a) Outside block and two hand thrust.
                 b) Inside block and upper level reverse strike.
                 c) Outside block and slide thrust.
                 d) Inside block, lower level reverse side strike, and overhead strike.
   (*Through all of these you should be trying to turn your opponent to their back side. Deflecting the other end of their bo away from you.)
2. Attack; Upward and overhead strike
   Defense; Two hand down block and two hand rising block, reverse grip. Counter with Side strike and reverse side strike.
   (* Think of down block / rising block then jab / counter punch)
3. Attack; Lower level two hand thrust.
   Defense; Sweeping block in shiko-dachi and overhead strike in zenkutsu-dachi.
   (*This is the same move found in Sakagawa-no-kon-sho)
