This section describes the top five precursor mission candidates, which were suggested after intensive brainstorming and down-selecting sessions. The down-selection criteria were the rationales listed in section 4.1.1.

The top five precursor mission candidates are, in no specific order:

• Near Earth Object (NEO) water extraction
• Orbital greenhouse
• Space hotel
• Lunar in-situ resource utilization (ISRU)
• Lunar Rover Race

All five of them are recommended as precursors for the strategy described in this report. The Lunar Rover Race mission was found to best fulfill the mission objectives. Therefore, it was chosen to be the precursor mission that would be worked out in more detail. As the following sections will further describe the Lunar Rover Race, only a brief outline will be presented here.
