Auto Transfer Mode
You should have noticed a third option for file transfer mode - Auto. This will take a
little explaining, but it will save you a great deal of time.
The Auto setting will transfer all files in Binary mode, unless the
file type is listed in the settings as needing to be uploaded in ASCII mode.
What we need to do now is set it up.
Click on the Options button at the bottom of the program. You will see a screen
like this:-

Click on the Extensions tab. You will see a screen like this:-

Type .cgi into the box and click the Add button. Notice how it gets
added to the list.
Do the same for .pl and .pm file types.
Add any other file types you use that should be uploaded in ASCII mode, such as
.htm, .html, .shtml and .css
Click on the OK button You can now safely leave the transfer mode set on
Auto which will save you a lot of time.
One last point worth mentioning is that the little icons next to files actually show what
transfer mode would be used with the auto setting enabled. The one that looks like a document with
the corner folded over means ASCII mode, the one with little zeroes and ones on denotes Binary
mode.

Binary mode

It does not however tell you what mode was actually used to upload files.
