The tools you can use to create a Web page can range from a basic text editor such as NotePad,
which is flexible but time consuming, to a full WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) page editor
such as FrontPage, which is restrictive but quicker and easier.
Personally, I prefer to use something between those two extremes - such as Macromedia
Dreamweaver or Evrsoft's 1st Page 2000. It is really up to you though.
If you are using Internet Explorer, you should have Frontpage Express installed on your
system. If you're using Netscape Navigator, then you will probably have Composer
installed. Either of these programs are suitable for creating a basic page, though an
experienced user would likely cringe at the thought of using them.
Everyone starts somewhere though.
I used Frontpage Express at first. Programs like that are useful for learning how page
elements fit together and interact with each other, but you will want to learn HTML if you get
serious about building sites.
I would advise you to use a basic text editor when following these instructions as we are only
going to create a very simple "Coming soon" type of page.
Not only that, every system has a text editor on it somewhere, and we don't want to get
sidetracked before we start.
