The Internet is still evolving. This means that the actions of the current users will
affect how it develops in the future. If too many people abuse it, it will be damaged -
perhaps permanently.
Maybe just one person won't have much of an impact on the way it develops, but as a Web site
owner (or future site owner) you will affect others by your actions. In turn these people
will have contact with others and so on.
Remember that new people are connecting to the Internet every day and that they will model their
own behaviour on the way existing users behave.
Set a good example
One of the first unspoken rules of the Internet was "give something back" meaning that everyone
should contribute something to the community as a whole.
This doesn't have to be money (although I could do with some). Just devote some of your
efforts towards making the Internet a better place.
If you have your own site, add something informational or entertaining (if you haven't
already). If you've been online for a while, then pass on some of your experience to others
in the forums.
Follow the rules. Show others the right way to do things. If you see someone who
isn't doing that, try to explain the reasons why they should. As I've mentioned before,
sometimes people just don't think (or don't know).
Try not to be one of them.
