Kendra Saunders is not who she thinks she
is. A frightening event in Austin, Texas, led Kendra to
attempt suicide, but in the aftermath, her body was inhabited
by the soul of an ancient Egyptian princess (who was one of
Kendra's ancestors). Mid-life reincarnation is a rare
occurrence, and little of Princess Chay-Ara's life and
memories have surfaced since the event. This has left Kendra
in an even more troubled and unbalanced state.
Plagued by nightmares and reeling from her parents' mysterious
and untimely deaths, Kendra left her home in Austin and went
to live with her grandfather, Speed Saunders. He began
training her for an incredible destiny: to become the new
Hawkgirl. Kendra'a trust in her grandfather overcame her
initial reluctance to take on the role, and she now wears the
wings and raiment of her great-aunt Shiera Sanders, the
original Hawkgirl, as her own. Kendra has also joined the
latest incarnation of the Justice Society of America.
Recently, a bold new personality has entered Kendra's life in
the form of the newly reincarnated Hawkman. Originally Khufu,
Chay-Ara's lover in ancient Egypt, Hawkman looks to Kendra for
any sign of their fated romance, a romance that has
transcended the centuries until now. Hawkman's attentions have
confused and angered Kendra, who only desires to sort through
her jumbled memories. Hawkgirl is determined to find and hunt
down the person who murdered her parents. The city of St. Roch,
Louisiana, has become the starting point for her quest. (DCWEB)
Hawkgirl was recruited as part of the
contingency team assembled when the JLA was thought dead
during the Obsidian Age saga.
