The original Elite were a band of powerful metahumans led by the telepath Manchester Black, who dispatched criminals "using any means necessary," including murder.  Black's "eye for an eye" approach caught Superman's attention, leading to an all-out war against the would-be "heroes."  Superman prevailed, proving that "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" was more than just the rhetoric Black claimed it to be.  Mentally unstable to begin with, Black's defeat at Superman's hands eventually led the tortured man to take his own life.

Assembled by the mysterious Vera Lyn Black to atone for the sins committed by her misguided brother, the members of the Justice League Elite proactively hunt and eliminate threats to the Earth before those threats go public.  Undercover stings, clandestine operations, back-room dealings, anything goes for the JLE to get the job done-- just up to the point of crossing the line.  Their greatest challenge will be to wade through the worst humanity has to offer without losing their own humanity in the process.  Only time will tell if this "grand experiment" was  doomed from the start.

Vera Lynn Black also known as Sister Superior, is a cyborg whose body houses a staggering arsenal. The technology in her arms also can generate nearly perfect psycho-holographic disguises.

Originally a hood from Chicago, a founding member of the Elite, and finally inspired by Superman to fight for right, Coldcast can both generate and absorb many forms of energy.

Manitou Raven is a Shaman of incredible mystic power.

Green Arrow has a history with Vera from her time in British intelligence. He acts as a tactician and outspoken moral leftie for the team.

The Flash chose to run with the Elite after the tragic events in his own life forced him to question the reactive nature of the JLA. He currently works with both teams.

Menagerie adopted the alien weapons crèche that covers her body from her sister Pam, the original Menagerie, whom Manchester Black lobotomized when she tried to turn on him.

Major Disaster, a surly former super-villain, brings his own touch of "class" to the team. His power to reorder cause and effect in the physical world can crash computers, flatten tires, or literally pull comets from the sky.

Kasumi is a reformed assassin whose "body of work" has become legend. Shadows are as much her weapons as the twin katanas she wields.

Naif al-Sheikh is a brutally honest man who was once a powerful figure in the international espionage game. Al-Sheikh was chosen to act as liaison between the Elite and the governments of the world for his unwavering
integrity, battle-hardened morals, and utter disdain for costumed metahumans.  (JLASFO04)
