Whilst monitoring Earth from his Dream
Dome, the Sandman witnessed a nightmare form on Earth and
attack the heroine known as Wonder Woman. Sandman came to
the rescue, and the two heroes defeat the nightmare
monster. Sandman became smitten with Princess Diana, but
returned to the Dream Dimension. Sandman learned of
Diana's secret identity of Diana Prince and also witnessed
the nightmare monster attack her two more times, and again
came to her aid. Sandman invited Wonder Woman to accompany
him back to the Dream Dimension to be her bride. The first
time, Wonder Woman denied, but when her fiancée Steven
Trevor called off their marriage, she accepted. There, she
learned that the nightmare monster as, in fact, her own
death wish, created by her sub conscious. Diana and
Sandman defeated it, and the two parted as friends.
While residing in the Dream Dimension,
the Sandman has various powers: he can fly, possesses
superhuman strength, and remain eternally young. The
Sandman can mentally reshape the matter that constitutes
the Dream Dimension into anything Sandman wishes.
The Sandman carries various equipment dedicated to
preventing nightmare monsters from leaking into the world
of reality. Amongst the equipment Sandman carries are
cartridges of sand, stored in his belt, which can put
people to sleep instantly, and a "hypersonic whistle."
Sandman's hypersonic whistle enables him to communicate
and control nightmare creatures, as well as create sonic
vibrations.
While in the Dream Dimension, the Sandman resides in the
Dream Dome, his base of operations. The Dream Dome is
equipped with monitoring equipment that can monitor the
real world. The Sandman leaves the Dream Dome to return to
Earth via the "Dream Ejector Tube," which can send dream
entities to the real world via the "Dream Stream," a
border between the living world and the sleeping world.
When the Sandman is not in the Dream Dimension, the Dream
Dome is manned by Sandman's assistants Brute and Glob. (JH)
After aiding them against Doctor
Destiny, Sandman was invited to join the JLA, but
declined. (JUSTICE LEAGUE ANNUAL #1)
