Lucas Carr was born in the small suburb of
Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, and, at the age of 14, began high
school at Happy Harbor High just like any other boy his age.
However, during his senior year, Lucas, whom most people
called "Snapper", found his entire life turned upside down.
While mowing his lawn, the evil world conqueror known as
Starro took mental control of the entire city of Happy Harbor.
Snapper, however, was unaffected. When the Justice Leaguer
known as the Flash arrived on the scene, he quickly realized
that Snapper was unaffected by Starro's mental domination.
Using the expertise of his civilian identity of Barry Allen,
police scientist, and with the aid of Green Lantern, the
Justice League determined that the lime Snapper had used on
the lawn prevented Starro from controlling him. The Justice
League then defeated the Starfish Conqueror and made Snapper
an honorary member of the Justice League of America.
As the JLA's "mascot," Snapper recorded the
adventures of the Justice League of America. Though not
usually brought along on missions, Snapper was crucial in
defeating Despero's first attack on Earth, as well as playing
the "Joker" and trumping Professor Ivo and the original Royal
Flush Gang.
However, the Joker, posing as "John Doe",
turned Snapper against the League. As "Doe," the Joker
convinced Snapper that all super-heroes were dangerous.
Deluded, Snapper told the Joker the location of the Justice
League's Secret Sanctuary headquarters. The League defeated
the Joker, but Snapper voluntarily surrendered his honorary
status and resigned from the Justice League. Snapper returned
to Happy Harbor and his average life.
Snapper's life was disrupted once again when
the madman named Anakronus held the Carr household hostage in
return for money the League was raising during a telethon.
Getting in touch with Green Lantern, Snapper teamed up with
his former teammates and defeated Anakronus.
Soon after, Snapper left Happy Harbor to
strike a life for himself. Going to graduate school, Snapper
soon realized that the label of "Justice League mascot" would
dog him for the rest of his life. He dropped out of graduate
school and tried to get a job at a lab, but failed. Finally,
in desperation, Snapper blamed his ex-colleagues for the ruin
his life had become. Snapper became the costumed villain
Star-Tsar and formed a partnership with Justice League villain
the Key. Snapper, however, was unaware that the Key was using
a mind-control device to subconsciously "push" Snapper's
revenge along. The two attacked the League, but in the end
Star-Tsar (alias Snapper) turned against the Key. In the end,
the so-called hero called the Privateer was actually the
Star-Tsar and manipulated both the Key and Snapper against the
League. The Privateer was defeated and Snapper renewed his
friendship with his old friends. The League helped get Snapper
a job at STAR Labs.
Snapper, preferring to be called Lucas at
this point, still works in the Midvale division of STAR Labs.
There, he assisted his old allies, such as helping out
Superman once and helping the League defeat the new Star-Tsar,
STAR Labs scientist Richard Rigel.
Though Snapper had various powers on
occasion, Snapper has no natural superhuman powers. Snapper is
a moderate hand-to-hand combatant, having learned from his
days with the League.
After leaving the League, Snapper became a
scientist at STAR Labs, with some expertise in Astronomy and
Physics. (JH)
